Episode 4 : Food for Thought

Food is at the center of my universe.

I love everything about food. Food can be experienced through all five senses. You can hear the sizzle of a juicy steak hitting a hot cast-iron skillet. You can see the deep brown crust forming as the steak caramelizes and develops a beautiful sear. You can feel the meat's tenderness beneath your fork. You can smell the aroma of the garlic, butter, herbs, and seasonings as they fill the kitchen. And, most importantly, you can taste it, and don't get me started on the five tastes.

You may be wondering where I am going with this. This is a blog about my experience with social media. Well, we are transitioning into one of my favorite things to learn about on social media platforms: Food!

So many platforms offer space to share recipes, cooking techniques, and more, but for me, TikTok was my app of choice.

TikTok made it easy for me to fall in love with creators as they shared their knowledge, experiences, and culture.

A few of my favorites:

Toni Chapman, better known as @TheMoodyFoody on TikTok and Instagram:

I have been following Toni for a few years now. While I haven't replicated any of her recipes, I love the history she shares behind her dishes. Toni is an Afro-Latino who shares Puerto Rican, Caribbean, and Hispanic homestyle dishes. However, she is known for her Cajun Butter Turkey Recipe.

Taelor Rankin, also known as @hungrymockingbird on TikTok and Instagram:

The term " Sunday baking club" is one I associate with Taelor Rankin. Taelors recipe for cinnamon rolls is my favorite! After reviewing many recipes for my first attempt, I found Taelors the easiest and matched the flavor profiles I was looking for.

Sonja Norwood, also known as @wickedconfections on TikTok:

Sonja's is known for sharing black American recipes that have been lost over time. As well as sharing the history behind common recipes and how black Americans have adapted recipes over time.

In honor of Father's  Day, I am going to highlight one of my Father's favorite chefs'

Anthony Brown, also known as Cooking and grilling with AB on YouTube

AB's recipes have been a fan favorite in our household. I even got my dad his cookbook for his birthday this year. It only seemed right, as AB's recipes and techniques have been the source of a few cookouts and Thanksgiving meals.

These creators are doing more than just sharing recipes - they're sharing stories, traditions, and experiences! This is how social media becomes a space where we learn, connect, and exchange cultural knowledge.

  1. Thank you for sharing your favorite content creators. Even though I do not have TikTok, I found your descriptions interesting. How long have you been cooking? Do you follow their recipes? Do you share these recipes with your network?
